Alfreda Returns with Melodramatic, Avant-Garde Pop Single ‘Guest Room’

Visionary singer-songwriter Alfreda continues to expand her stylistic horizons with the powerful new song "Guest Room." Following the release of her poignant single "Nude," featuring tongue-in-cheek Rococo-inspired visuals, and the spellbinding synth-pop number "Lipstick," Alfreda's latest track further showcases her signature chic-pop style. This explosive single frames the bitter taste of rejection through Alfreda’s witty perspective, infused with a touch of old-school Hollywood glamour. The London-born, New York-raised artist masterfully blends fantasy and reality in her captivating new release.

"Guest Room" begins with luxurious piano keys, soon accompanied by Alfreda’s entrancing voice, which presents a rose-tinted vision of young love. This fanciful reverie is abruptly disrupted by the painful realization that your lover has assigned you to the guest room. The song's push-and-pull tension, underscored by bluesy undertones and avant-garde pop production, emphasizes the childlike desire for love and acceptance—a theme prevalent in Alfreda’s recent work.

Reflecting on the inspiration behind "Guest Room," Alfreda shares a personal anecdote:

"I remembered the time I was spending the weekend with my first boyfriend's family. It was the first time I'd spent a night with him, so I expected to share a bed and grow closer. But upon arrival, I was put in a separate room, and I took great offense. The rejection I felt was disproportionate to the situation, but it tapped into deep feelings of neglect and abandonment. I had a lot of emotions and wasn't sure how to control them."

Alfreda’s raw vulnerability and emotional sensitivity distinguish her in the art-pop sphere. Her versatility as an artist is evident in her numerous performances of "Guest Room" during top-secret live sets at the influential underground club night Dangerous Kitchen. These performances featured various acts, including contortionists, magicians, and dancers, adding a unique element to each show. With its purring melody and seductive vocals, "Guest Room" has already become a fan favorite, exploring themes of female sexuality with depth and nuance.

Central to Alfreda’s burlesque-influenced live performances is her evocative transparency and commitment to creating a safe space for expression. She holds a cabaret-inspired residency called "Bedroom Tales" at the revamped London music hub and members club House of KOKO. Just a week before Glastonbury in 2023, Alfreda was invited to perform at the festival by burlesque icon Evelyn Carnate.

"Guest Room," along with "Nude" and "Lipstick," share common themes of femininity, self-awareness, playfulness, sexuality, and boundless expression. This continuity builds anticipation for Alfreda’s forthcoming EP, *Mothers Makeup*. To promote the eagerly awaited debut, she is embarking on a "Bedroom Tour," which will see her perform in various people's bedrooms across England.

Alfreda also graces a three-page editorial shoot and interview in the April issue of Tatler, where she delves into her music, cabaret, influences, and the vibrant visual world she creates. As Alfreda continues to push the boundaries of her artistry, "Guest Room" stands as a testament to her ability to blend personal experience with universal themes, offering listeners an intimate yet grandiose musical journey.
