We get to know NYC artist Noella Rain, who has just released her captivating new single 'Huckleberry Finn'.
Who is Noella Rain?
Noella Rain is an 18 year old, singer-songwriter, native New-Yorker and a struggling high-school senior very ready to graduate.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as raw and vulnerable. I write primarily in the pop and indie-folk genre though in my upcoming album I also experiment in the jazz and rock genre.
What’s a typical day in the studio like for you?
A typical day in the studio I warm up my voice by doing some vocal exercises by the piano. I play any new songs I have written to my producer Jeff Gruber at Blue House Productions and together we help create the best arrangement to tell my song's narrative. I am also often inspired to go over to the steinway and write in the studio when music is being mixed in between vocal sessions.
Tell us about your new single Huckleberry Finn which you've just released!
Huckleberry Finn is unlike anything I have ever released before in that the song really takes you through a vivid journey lyrically. I really tried to focus when writing the song on my imagery. Huckleberry Finn is about two childhood best friends growing up on Long Island, who come back together and realise they want to be more than just friends.
Who are your three biggest musical inspirations?
My biggest musical inspiration is and always will be Carole King. Recently I have been incredibly inspired by Olivia Rodrigo with the success of her debut single Drivers License. I am a huge Lorde fan Melodrama is one of my favourite albums and I am desperate for her to break her music hiatus soon.
What’s the toughest part of the industry for you?
I am really just beginning to navigate the industry but I think the toughest part has been building confidence in my work and trying not to compare my success and artistic journey to other incredibly talented but different artists around me.
What’s the most enjoyable part of the industry?
I love that I am able to be vulnerable through my music and seeing anything I write and sing resonate or touch anyone is the deepest encouragement. I feel so privileged to be able to create music and that there are people who want to listen. I am excited to hopefully perform my new single and upcoming album live in the future.
What’s in store for you for the rest of 2021?
The next single I am releasing is called "Inception". After that I have two more single releases scheduled ahead of my second album debut that has been over a year in the making. I will be continuing to write more songs and will be posting live performances of originals and covers on my social media.
