Giant Killers' Triumphant Return: A 90s Revival with Timeless Appeal

Giant Killers, the songwriting duo of Jamie Wortley and Michael Brown, have made a remarkable return to the spotlight after a three-decade struggle. Originally signed to MCA Records in 1995, they released two singles, but their debut album was never released. Now, after regaining control of their music, Giant Killers are finally seeing their work celebrated in ways they never anticipated.

Their latest single, "Around the Blocks," has been met with enthusiastic praise, with one review cheekily noting that it’s “surely the best song the Lightning Seeds never wrote!” This acclaim has cemented the track as their choice for the second single, and in a twist of fate, the band is set to perform at Shiiine On Festival in November alongside none other than the Lightning Seeds.

Giant Killers’ revival has also caught the attention of BBC Radio 5 Live. Presenter Patrick Kielty invited them back for a Euros special live lounge session, where they fielded song requests from both Spanish and English fans ahead of England vs. Spain final. Their performance at the Teddy Rocks festival in Dorset was another highlight, featuring a unique video shoot that captured the energy of both the main stage and the festival crowd.

The band’s 90s sound, characterized by their deft songwriting and infectious melodies, has resonated with today’s music press. They’ve been praised for their “timeless appeal” and the charm of their songwriting, drawing a new generation of fans while rekindling the admiration of those who remember their early work.

Throughout their long career, Giant Killers have remained active musicians, playing prestigious venues and festivals, from Glastonbury to Proms in the Park, where they opened for Lionel Richie. They’ve also toured with Squeeze and supported Motown legend, Edwin Starr, even making a memorable appearance as a sticker in Smash Hits!

Now, as Giant Killers’ music finally gets the attention it deserves, it’s clear that their blend of nostalgic 90s sound and enduring songwriting charm has found a new audience. With their recent success and upcoming festival appearances, the duo is set to make an indelible mark on the music scene once again.
