Fast-emerging US artist HEwas Covers Bob Seger’s Anti-War Song, ‘2+2=?’ and Launches Activist Platform. Let's take a closer look at this Cosmic Wire signee's latest release.
Washington-based Singer, Songwriter, Activist and LGBT person HEwas released his debut single 'Lemon' in May 2020, which was a well-received pop song that showcases his unique and catchy vocals. He has been growing a steady and dedicated following since then. Soon after signed to record label Cosmic Wire, HEwas then released the super catchy ‘WHOLEthing’ featuring GRAMMY-nominated hip-hop artist, Afroman.
Produced by Cosmic Wire’s label head, BLAZAR and mastered by Hans Dekline (U2, Snoop Dog, Pixies), the earthy alternative rock cover keeps the integrity of the original by perfectly hitting every note and beat. HEwas' super powerful vocal shines through on this record, alongside sleek distorted guitar riffs and a badass rhythm section which has real bite. We love how the song builds from a gentler introduction before cascading into a raucous rock riot. Vocal chants in the background add drama, whilst the texture is built with heavier drums and guitar. The song is seamlessly produced with expert musical craftsmanship at the core, and we love the breakdown towards the end before one final explosion hits. Artist and producer have taken Seger's track and made a sparkling modern rock version of their own, as an ode to the original. The very meaning of the song has so much resonance for the artist too, which makes this a song packed not only with a great sound, but with an underlying message that continues to be relevant; and just as much so today, suggests HEwas.
HEwas comments on his ‘2 + 2 = ?’ cover:
“Anti-imperialism has always been so important to me. To me the idea that violence is wrong has always been so obvious, so the message that the morals are as simple as 2+2 really struck a chord with me.” adding, “our brainstorming of how to make this project meaningful evolved into the creation of my YouTube channel, “HEwas Interviews”, where I talk to progressive activists and leaders about this subject. It feels great to know that as we promote this song, we will be simultaneously promoting a movement that I care deeply about.”
Alongside the buzzing artist’s third release, the mover and shaker launches, ‘HEwas Interviews’, a platform for activists and political candidates to share their story and make a real difference.
