Tomorrow, Finnish alternative pop-rock duo The Impersonators release their debut album "Life Of Grant". Expect poignant lyrics, vocal harmonies and chiming chords in this fictional masterpiece which resonates with all of us...
Together with their secret weapon, producer Janne Saksa, The Impersonators have truly delivered on this standout collection of 11 tracks, each offering a glimpse into the life of the fictional character 'Grant'. The album charts the journey taken by Grant as he navigates love, loss and the winding road of life. They draw inspiration from the likes of The Beatles, The Byrds and The Beach Boys...
'Rodeo' is a swag-filled opening track with visceral lyrics about being a fool in love. We are introduced to beautifully-crafted musical arrangement and production, with a string section and impressive rock guitar lead parts. 'When You Are Young' gets into a more low-key, acoustic feel with a melancholic overlay. Percussion joins in on the pre-chorus before gaining momentum for a super-climatic chorus that makes you appreciate the songwriting at play here. There's a luscious organ section too - part of the joy of this album is the vast and varied instrumentation.
A stand-out track for us is the piano-based 'You Are The One' which is sure to tug at your heartstrings. This is such a poignant track centred around the theme of hope and desire. A brass section sits alongside a string arrangement - quite incredible musicality at work all round. 'Sad Cafe' will once again swoop you away with its excellent craftsmanship, in keeping with the album in its entirety. 'Scarlett Hell' portrays agony and angst and contrasts beautifully with the more dreamy tracks. All in all, a glorious album full of highs and no lows in terms of quality.
Having previously been signed to Sony/BMG with Carmen Gray, one of Finland's finest rock bands, Tom Tikka has formed The Impersonators, a two-man project born out of the ashes. Together with fellow music fanatic and lyricist Antti Autio, The Impersonators are just that: a duo which masquerades as a full band and does everything it can to defy convention.
